Michel de Graaf 35a6fed3c3 fix: slotsfull is occupancy, not free slots, and cover it end to end
Running the e2e suite against a real soulfind showed the per-member slots
field was implemented backwards. The wire field is `slotsfull` -- a boolean
that is true when the member's upload slots are all occupied -- not a count
of free ones. `slots_free: u32` named it, documented it and printed it as
the opposite of what the server means, so a caller reading it would pick the
busiest peer to download from.

- types: `slots_full: bool`, with the wire name in the doc comment
- the DTO, the `room users` output and SKILL.md follow
- a new e2e test joins a room with a member sharing a known three files and
asserts the counts, the roster alignment and the slot flag against
soulfind, so the parsing is checked against a real server rather than only
against frames this repo wrote itself

Michel de Graaf fa49ebd2eb feat(lib): per-member room statistics from the JoinRoom reply
The JoinRoom (code 14) reply carries, after the membership list, four
parallel vectors describing each member: status, share statistics, free
upload slots and country. The handler stopped after the usernames, so all of
it was discarded. It is now parsed and exposed as Client::room_member_stats.

Issue #48 asked for RoomStats (57) and RoomListStats (55). Those codes are
UserInterests and MyRecommendations in the Soulseek protocol; there is no
RoomStats message on the wire. Per-room user counts already arrive with
RoomList (64), which the client handles, and the per-member statistics are
part of the JoinRoom reply -- so that is where this adds them.

- join_room.rs: parse the stat vectors, each bounded by the payload so a
hostile count cannot hang or overallocate
- types::RoomUserStats; every field looked up positionally so a server
sending short vectors (or omitting countries) does not shift the roster
- ServerMessage/ClientOperation::RoomMemberStats and the context snapshot
behind Client::room_member_stats, replaced on each rejoin

Michel de Graaf f9becf9680 fix(peer): survive download token races on the listener path
A P-connection drop failed every download for its user, including ones
actively transferring on their own healthy F connection:
collect_failed_tokens now only fails queued downloads. And an F
connection could look its token up before the client-operations thread
had registered it: the listener now waits for the registration, and
claims it only for the matching peer and only when not already claimed.

Michel de Graaf ac06cb9a5a feat(lib): reserve client minor versions 1 (unidentified) and 2 (reference client)
Document the minor-version registry on ClientVersion: within the
soulseek-rs major (176), minor 1 stays the library default for
unidentified consumers and minor 2 is now the reference CLI/TUI client.
Downstream clients reserve their own minor via issue #12.

Michel de Graaf 543e9ee865 fix(peer): wait for the transfer token before the download lookup
The listener looked the download up immediately after the PeerInit(F),
but the 4-byte transfer token routinely arrives in a separate TCP
segment, so every firewalled peer download failed with "Download info
missing". Wait for the token within the handshake deadline and give up
on the connection when it never arrives.

Also quiets the dispatcher's unhandled-message-code log to debug; the
server routinely sends codes the library doesn't implement.

Michel de Graaf 2a90619a64 refactor(client): dedupe peer registration and order eviction by id
The registry stored a registration Instant only to pick the eviction
victim, but the actor id is already monotonic per registration and
refreshed at the same moments, so it orders identically. The
register-refuse-fail sequence was also copy-pasted between the ops
loop and the listener; both now call one register_peer_or_fail.

Michel de Graaf 492b961766 fix(client): survive the review findings on the thread-flood fix
Review of the capacity work surfaced three real defects and two gaps:

- A peer dribbling bytes re-armed the 10s handshake read timeout on
every read and held its accept permit forever; 128 such sockets
wedged the accept loop for good. The handshake now has one deadline
across all reads, plus a 4 KiB cap on buffered handshake bytes.
- A capacity refusal was logged and swallowed, leaving the refused
peer's queued downloads stuck until the caller's own timeout. Both
registration paths now fail those downloads so the caller gets a
verdict, and the listener only announces PeerConnected when the
  registration actually happened.
- The transfer-claim was undone by the worker thread writing Queued
back over it; that write is gone, so a replayed TransferResponse
can no longer start a second writer on the same .part file.
- Offered uploads and queue waiters joined the eviction-protected
set, and the browse protection window matches the minutes a real
share listing takes rather than one.

Regression tests: the broker-timeout sweep failing a queued download
end to end, the replay guard observed over a real socket, and the
handshake deadline against a dribbling and an oversized peer.

Michel de Graaf 9fe1c9984c fix(client): bound the threads a peer flood can create
One popular search produced a ConnectToPeer for every responder, and
each one cost a 2 MiB wrapper thread, an unbounded 256 KiB actor, a
listener thread per inbound socket, and on failure a 2 MiB thread that
slept for 20 seconds. A container with a pids limit died on one album
search (issues #32, #33).

Four bounds, no behavior change for a quiet session:
- P-type registrations run inline on the ops loop; only F transfers
keep a worker thread. The dial already ran on the actor thread.
- The broker timeout is a deadline swept by the ops loop instead of a
  sleeping thread per failed dial.
- The registry caps live actors (default 512, Client::set_max_peers).
At capacity the oldest peer outside the caller's protected set
(live downloads, uploads, pending serves, queued messages, browses
in flight) is evicted; if none qualify the registration is refused
  before any thread is spawned.
- Concurrent listener handshakes are bounded by a 128-permit
semaphore released once the peer-init arrives, so slow handshakes
cannot multiply threads while transfers stay unthrottled.

A replayed TransferResponse for an InProgress or Completed token is
dropped instead of starting a second transfer thread over the same
.part file.

Michel de Graaf 9ce0a851dc fix(peer): handle UploadDenied so refused downloads fail fast
Peer message code 50 had no handler, so the dispatcher dropped it and a
download refused by the peer stayed Queued until the caller's timeout.

The new handler reads the filename and reason and routes the denial into
the same failure path as UploadFailed. A reason of "Queued" is status,
not a failure: some clients send it for a download that is still held in
their queue, and failing it would kill healthy downloads after a
reconnect, so that one is only logged.

Michel de Graaf d30ca757bc fix(peer): forward UploadFailed to the download store
The code 46 handler parsed the filename and only logged it, so a queued
download whose peer reported an upload failure never received
DownloadStatus::Failed and hung until the caller's own timeout.

The handler now sends PeerMessage::UploadFailed through the dispatcher
and the actor stamps the peer's username on it before forwarding
ClientOperation::UploadFailed into the existing failure path. The
variant's username field stays for API compatibility; the wire message
cannot name anyone but the connected peer, so the actor supplies it.

Michel de Graaf 77f36b1e98 fix(actor): leave Disconnected state behind after every disconnect
A failed outbound dial left PeerActor in Connecting, so
check_connection_status re-fired the 20-second timeout error on every

its disconnect paths only cleared state when already Connected.

Michel de Graaf 6eaf33fbaa fix(lib): cap what a search collects
Counting cheaply was not enough: on the live network peers answer a
popular query for minutes after the window closes, and nothing ever
stopped the pile-up. One 'aphex twin' search grew to 867,990 files and
2.1 GB of daemon memory, and a single search.results reply serialized
134 MB of JSON over 104 seconds - an attached TUI that touched the
search froze for minutes, which read as the whole application being
forever slow.

A search now stops collecting at 500 responses or 10,000 files,
whichever comes first, the same shortlist stance other clients take: a
result set is something to pick from, not an archive of everyone who
answered. The same search now plateaus at ~10k files, a 1.55 MB reply
in 23 ms, and 231 MB of daemon memory; the attached TUI idles at zero
CPU with the search open.

Michel de Graaf 0bbb559f68 fix: survive busy sessions without exhausting file descriptors
The peer listener died with "Too many open files (os error 24)" on any
long-lived non-daemon session: only the daemon raised RLIMIT_NOFILE, and
peer sockets were unbounded — no idle reaping, no deadlines on accepted
transfer streams, and one peer could hold two connections under split
registry identities.

- raise the open-file limit at the top of run(), for every entry point,
and warn from Client::connect when the soft limit is below 1024
- reap peer control connections idle for five minutes; a clean
disconnect no longer discards the peer's queued uploads
- give listener-supplied download streams and upload serving the same
read/write deadlines dialled sockets already had
- register inbound peers under their plain username so the registry
holds one connection per peer, and announce them like pierced ones
- hold the registry lock across actor spawn + insert and surface
thread-spawn failure, so an instantly-dead peer cannot leave a
  zombie entry

Michel de Graaf 1551fbbf1b perf(daemon): answer search polls with counts instead of copies
A CLI one-off search leaves its result set in the daemon until someone
forgets it, and an attached TUI made that permanent state expensive:
every 100ms tick asked for the search list twice, and each answer
deep-cloned every result of every search under the context lock just to
sum file counts - stalling the thread that stores incoming results.
Worse, any active or selected search pulled its entire result set over
the socket again each tick, megabytes of JSON repeating what the window
already held.

search.list is now backed by search_file_counts, a walk of the cache
instead of a copy of it; the TUI syncs once per tick and re-fetches a
result set only when the session's file count differs from what it
holds. get_search_results_count reads the same summary, so get --pick
first against a daemon polls a count instead of the full set, and both
session kinds now count files where the local one counted peer
responses.

Michel de Graaf f525984a7b fix(lib): keep a missing download directory as the target, not its parent
resolve_download_path treated "not a directory" as "names a file" and
fell back to the parent, so a directory that simply did not exist yet
redirected the transfer one level up. The CLI and TUI create the folder
before downloading and never hit it; a daemon does not, so its transfers
landed in ~/Downloads while daemon.status - and the paths download and
get report - named ~/Downloads/Soulseek. Green on any machine where the
folder already exists, which is how it survived to CI.

Only an existing file diverts to the parent now. PartFile::open already
creates the directory it streams into.

Michel de Graaf f1b667f7f9 refactor: cut what a whole-repo audit proved dead, padded, or hand-rolled
Seven region audits, every finding adversarially verified against the
whole workspace before being applied; 80 landed and the two that failed
in application were refuted honestly (ParseError has a from_str_radix
producer the audit missed; NatPmpError's Display is the only reader of
its diagnostic payloads).

The bigger cuts:

- The NewPeer/PierceFireWall cluster: an operation variant nothing ever
  sent, its 77-line arm, a protocol-wrong Client::pierce_firewall that
wrote a peer-init frame down the server socket, and the struct only
they used. The live paths in peer/listen.rs are untouched.
- The ops loop reads `for operation in reader` instead of hand-rolling
recv/break, de-indenting the whole dispatch body.
- Dead lib surface: Message::print_hex and four unused accessors,
UploadFailed, registry and actor getters, build_watch_user,
strip_ansi_codes, delegating shims on ClientContext. Removing public
items makes this a semver major, which the release pipeline enforces.
- Never-used flexibility: the state-migration framework that never held
a migration, border-type helpers that all answered Rounded, the TUI's
  max_concurrent_downloads field nothing read.
- Convergence: six poll loops into poll_until, three wrap-around
navigation blocks into cycle, hit tests into Rect::contains, char
walkers into floor/ceil_char_boundary, five Download literals into
one helper, the suites' shared scaffolding into tests/common.

Deliberately not taken: swapping the hand-rolled zlib inflate and MD5
for crates (they replace wire-facing machinery whose tolerance of
real-world peer quirks no local test exercises) and pulling chrono into
the lib for a log timestamp. Recorded for their own decision.

Net -1002 lines. Both e2e modes stay green: 94 CLI tests each way, 16
protocol, 33 lib, unit suites, clippy pedantic clean, aislop 100/100
with the four scanner false positives suppressed inline where they
fire.

Michel de Graaf 011eafaa7f feat(daemon): make every window a view of one shared session
Two TUIs on one daemon behaved as two separate windows that happened to share
a login: each showed only the transfers it had queued and the searches it had
run, and neither said it was attached to anything.

The status bar now names the daemon, and both lists are views of the session:
transfers and searches appear in every window, dismissing one dismisses it
everywhere, and a window opened later starts from what is already running
rather than blank. message read likewise starts from the conversation the
daemon collected instead of only what arrives while it runs.

Search state needed the daemon to say when a query went out. The window a
search collects for belongs to whichever client started it, so without that
every other window showed a running search as finished the moment it appeared
— which is what it did. The summary carries a file count too, so a window has
the right number before it has pulled the results across.

Adds Client::forget_search, which the library had no way to do: a resident
client otherwise holds every result set it has ever seen, and a window that
dismissed a search had no way to say so.

A review of the first cut found five defects, all fixed here and all covered:
syncing ran locally too, where it cost a full copy of every result set per
frame and deleted the completed-download history restored from disk; a
transfer could be listed twice by racing its own registration; clearing all
searches did not reach the session, so every row came back; a search dismissed
elsewhere never left; and a wishlist search reported as finished the instant
it went out.

Michel de Graaf 220beb4e41 fix(daemon): ask the OS for enough open files, and stop spinning when it says no
A search fans out to hundreds of peers, each holding a socket. A shell hands
its children a soft limit of 256 open files on macOS, which one busy search
blows straight through; a one-shot command never noticed because it exited
before it mattered, but a resident daemon hits it and then cannot accept peers
or control connections. From a client that looks like 'cannot reach the
daemon: Connection closed', intermittently, for no visible reason.

The daemon now raises its own soft limit to 8192 at startup, before anything
opens a socket, and says so plainly when the hard limit will not allow it.
macOS rejects an unlimited hard limit for open files, so both fields are named.

Both accept loops also slept zero on failure. Out of descriptors does not clear
by the next instruction, so one exhausted moment became a spinning core and
thousands of identical log lines — which is what the report looked like. They
now back off.

Michel de Graaf db75a8266a fix(serve): report a queued upload even when it is served between two polls
`serve` samples `uploads()` every 500ms and emits what changed, so an upload
state shorter than that window never reached the log. Nothing surfaced this
while every upload sat on its slot for a 500ms linger, which was exactly one
poll; with the linger gone a peer can queue and be served between two samples,
and "it had to wait" — the one thing the queue exists to record — silently
disappeared.

The pump now keeps whatever it left waiting, and `serve` drains that alongside
the snapshot, so the fact survives regardless of when the next sample lands.
The list is deduplicated per peer and file and capped, so a caller that never
drains cannot grow it without bound.

This is what made cli_e2e::serve_reports_a_queued_upload_once_the_slots_are_full
fail on CI while passing locally: the assertion was real, and it was timing that
decided whether the client could answer it.

Michel de Graaf 7435d48b32 perf: raise transfer defaults and stop uploads sleeping on their slot
The slot cap merged from master defaults to 2 uploads, and the CLI capped
downloads at 5. Those are the numbers you pick when your own bandwidth is the
scarce resource, but a Soulseek transfer is paced by the peer on the other end
— usually a few hundred KiB/s — so what fills a modern link is many transfers
at once, not faster ones. Upload slots go to 10, downloads to 20. The queue
itself stays: privileged users being able to jump it is a condition of being a
tolerated third-party client.

serve_file also slept half a second after the last byte so the downloader could
drain before the socket closed. With a cap that is time no other peer can use,
and 64 uploads over 10 slots paid it six times over. A half-close says "that is
the whole file" and TCP still delivers everything written before the FIN.

Measured with 64 waiting peers: 2 slots 24.2s, 8 slots 6.2s, 32 slots 3.1s; at
10 slots the linger alone was 5.4s to 3.05s.

Michel de Graaf 5b4ef30f08 feat: lift the client's concurrency ceiling from ~15 peers to 1024
The client had never been driven at scale. A stress harness that mixes
searches, downloads, uploads and browses against a local soulfind found four
ceilings, three of which lose work silently rather than merely being slow.

Peers were capped at one per core. ActorSystem ran each actor's whole lifetime
as one job on a fixed-size ThreadPool, and actor loops block until stopped, so
the pool acted as a semaphore: past the cap an actor never started, never
connected and never errored, and uploads stopped working entirely. The pool had
exactly one consumer and every job it received was non-terminating, so it is
gone; actors get their own thread.

TransferResponse raced the bookkeeping it depends on. It was sent straight back
to the peer while UpdateDownloadTokens was still queued for the client loop —
but the response is what invites the peer's file connection, and that connection
is matched by token. Under load the client loop lost, the file connection
matched nothing, and the download sat on Queued forever. The response now goes
out after the token is recorded.

Download tokens were md5(filename) truncated to 20 bits, and the store deletes
every entry matching a token, so two downloads sharing one destroyed each other
— which fetching the same filename from two peers does every time. They now
come from a counter.

Port 0 from GetPeerAddress means the server does not know where a user listens.
It was cached and dialled, and the upload waiting on it was dropped. It is no
longer cached or served against; the connect attempt stays, because its failure
is what makes an unreachable peer fall back to server brokering.

Mixed profile at 1024 peers: 512/512 downloads, 256/256 uploads, 400-850 MiB/s
in ~7s, against 71/96 downloads at 7.9 MiB/s and a 60s timeout before.

Michel de Graaf 783d429af0 refactor(lib): move the client tests into their own file
client/mod.rs had grown to 1124 lines, a third of it tests: six loose #[test]
functions wedged between the two `impl ClientContext` blocks, plus the usual

790 lines of actual client.

Same 11 tests, same 568 passing across the workspace.

Michel de Graaf e8a48c6b06 fix!: make concurrent invocations work instead of silently seeing nothing (#22)
Running several one-shot commands at once returned "no results" for queries that
had plenty. Four defects, each of which made a dead session look like an empty
network:

- The peer listener bound its port inside a detached thread and panicked on
EADDRINUSE, unwinding that thread alone. The process carried on with no
listener, so no peer could deliver a search response. `Listen::bind` now takes
the socket before login and falls back to an ephemeral port when the
  configured one is held.
- SetWaitPort advertised the configured port whether or not it was bound, so
peers dialled a sibling process that discarded responses to tickets it never
issued. The port the listener really holds is what gets advertised, mapped
through UPnP, and reported by `whoami` and `serve`.
- A zero-byte read is EOF on a TCP socket, but MessageReader reported it as
success, so a server that closed cleanly left the actor polling a dead socket.
It is now an error, and Relogged (code 41) has a handler. The peer actor
classifies that error: a control connection that was established and then
closed is a clean disconnect, because peers drop idle sockets while the bytes
move over their own connection, and reporting an error there fails every
download queued with that peer including the one streaming. A connection that
never established keeps the error path, which is what the server-brokered
fallback reads to know a peer is unreachable.
- A session the server cut off - usually because another process logged in under
the same name - exited 4, documented as "it worked and found nothing". Callers
concluded the file was unavailable. Sessions now record why they ended and
  those verdicts become exit 7.

The server allows one session per account, so concurrency still needs a distinct
--username per run; SKILL.md documents that. The listener port needs no such
care any more.

Six e2e tests against soulfind cover it, each of which fails without the fix: a
taken listen port, a displaced session, three clients searching at once under
one configured port, the two CLI equivalents, and a peer that hangs up its
control connection while a transfer is still to come.

BREAKING CHANGE: `Listen::start` is replaced by `Listen::bind` and
`Listen::serve`, so the caller owns the socket and can read the port it actually
bound. `Client::listen_port` and `Client::session_loss` are new.

Michel de Graaf 9b87bd6a0f feat!: wishlist, upload-queue privilege recognition, and search filters (#20)
Closes the last two gaps in Soulseek's list of features an alternative client
must implement to be tolerated, and adds the result filters Nicotine+ has had
all along.

Wishlist: server code 103 is sent and code 104's announced interval is kept
rather than logged and discarded, so the re-search timer runs off the schedule
the server set. `wish add|remove|list|run` plus `serve --wishlist`; wishes
persist in config.toml as a TOML array so a comma inside a query survives.
`wish run` prints search-shaped records, so it pipes into `download --stdin`.

Privilege recognition: the code-69 user list is parsed instead of counted and
dropped, and code 92 answers `whoami` as `privilege_seconds`. Uploads now go
through a queue with a slot cap (`--upload-slots`, default 2) that serves
privileged users first — the cap is what makes the ordering mean anything, so
they are one change. `PlaceInQueueRequest` (peer code 51) is answered, where it
previously had no handler at all, and a departed peer's slot is released so a
stalled peer cannot wedge uploads shut.

Search filters: `--exclude`, `--extension`, `--min-size`, `--max-size` beside
the existing `--min-bitrate` and `--free-slots`, in one flattened arg group
shared by `search`, `get` and `wish run`.

Also serialises the library e2e suite behind the same gate `cli_e2e` already
uses: the new queue tests hold peer sockets open on purpose, which starved
concurrently-spawned soulfinds and failed unrelated download tests with
`login: Timeout`.

BREAKING CHANGE: `UploadStatus` gains a `Queued(u32)` variant, so an exhaustive
match on it no longer compiles, and `cli::Commands` gains `Wish`.

Michel de Graaf af4434e764 test: prove the documented examples against the binary (#15)
* test: prove the documented examples against the binary

The README, the website and the shipped SKILL.md all promise specific
records, keys and exit codes, and nothing was checking that the binary
still agrees. Cover the claims that were unverified: the eleven
credential-free commands, the one-day bound on every wait, the config
directory relocation, `serve` refusing to run without a listener, the
four action commands that answer with an exit code alone, the search
filters, `--password-stdin`, `room listen`'s join records, and every
`--json` field the docs name for search, browse, whoami, user, shares,
room, download, serve and portmap.

The library README's examples now compile as doctests: lib.rs includes
it as the crate docs and the fences are `no_run`, so a signature change
cannot leave the advertised usage stale.

Two things were wrong. SKILL.md listed `queued` as a `serve` upload
status, which `upload_record` never emits — an agent branching on it
would wait for a state that never arrives. And the library README still
pointed at the 7.x lib.

Michel de Graaf a72dd64081 feat: resume an interrupted download instead of refetching it (#18)
Downloads buffered the whole file in memory and wrote it out only on
success, so an interrupted transfer left nothing behind and always
started over. The START_DOWNLOAD offset was hardcoded to zero on the
download side and discarded on the upload side, so neither half of the
protocol's resume support was wired up.

Bytes now stream into `<file>.part` as they arrive and it is renamed
only once the file is whole. A new attempt sends the partial file's
length as the START_DOWNLOAD offset, and `serve_file` seeks to the
offset a peer asks for rather than replaying from the start. A `.part`
at or past the expected size is treated as stale and restarted.

Partial files are kept out of the share index, since the download
directory is shared by default.

Michel de Graaf d2f3dd13d7 feat: log in with soulseek-rs's own client major version (176) (#13)
The Login message hardcoded SoulseekQt's major version 157, so the
server could not tell soulseek-rs apart from the official client. The
protocol document now reserves a unique major version per project, so
claim 176 and send it via a new ClientVersion on ClientSettings.

Clients and bots built on the library keep major 176 and pick their own

Michel de Graaf 5090af97a2 fix(lib): give the login verdict the wait the caller already allows
The actor gave the server 5 seconds to answer a login before reporting
Timeout, while Client::login documents and allows 45. Under load — 24
e2e tests sharing one soulfind — 5 seconds is not always enough, which
is how CI failed on a docs-only commit.

Michel de Graaf 9e41456507 docs: follow up the v7 release and the homebrew section
The homebrew install text arrived with an em-dash in it, and both READMEs still
told library users to depend on version 6.

Michel de Graaf 692e8008e0 docs: link the website from the crates and the READMEs
The site went up but nothing pointed at it. `homepage` in the workspace
package metadata gives both crates.io pages a link, and each README opens with
one, so someone landing on the crate or the repo can find the install guide
and the config reference.

Michel de Graaf 14b0321dbc docs: document the skills command and the scriptable surface
The READMEs still described the flags and spellings the one-shot rework
replaced, and said nothing about `skills`. The root README gains an agent
skills section covering install, update and removal; the crate READMEs catch
up with the current command set, record shapes and library API.

Michel de Graaf 03e8924a6b feat(cli): expose sharing, peer lookup and settings as one-shot commands
An agent driving the binary could search, fetch and chat, but it could not be
a peer: nothing kept a session online to serve files, nothing reported an
upload, shares could only be set at startup, and there was no way to ask
whether a peer was worth queueing to or to check credentials without doing
something else.

New commands:

serve [--follow] stay online sharing; one record per upload
whoami credentials, connection and what we offer
user <NAME> a peer's presence and share counts
room users <ROOM> the member roster
  shares list|add|remove|status|reindex
  config path|list|get|set

`config` and `shares list|add|remove` need no account, so they run before the
credential check — asking a script to log in for a `config get` would be a
poor trade. `serve` is the only place uploads are visible: they live in the
process serving them, so a one-shot `uploads list` could print nothing but an
empty list.

Library additions, all request/poll pairs matching the existing conventions:

- Client::room_members, kept current from the join and leave events
- Client::request_user_info / user_info, backed by new handlers for
GetUserStatus (7) and GetUserStats (36) — codes the dispatcher previously
logged as unhandled. The wire format is taken from soulfind's own source
and pinned by an e2e test that asserts a peer's real share count.
- UserInfo carries presence and stats as Options, so a reply that never
arrived cannot be read as "offline" or "shares nothing"
- request_user_info clears the previous answer, so the documented poll loop
observes this request rather than the last one
- ServerMessage and ClientOperation are now #[non_exhaustive]: every protocol
message the client learns adds a variant, and that should not break callers
- the crate root and prelude re-export every type a Client method returns

Also pins the output contract with tests: under --json, stdout carries only
newline-delimited JSON across fifteen command shapes while progress still
goes to stderr, and a failing command writes nothing to stdout at all.

Michel de Graaf be6581ee6c feat(cli)!: replace the one-shot commands with a scriptable surface
The one-shot half of the binary could not finish its headline task without a
human at the keyboard: `search` opened a full-screen picker, panicked with
exit 101 when there was no terminal, and no command could fetch a known file
at all. Everything exited 0 whatever happened, wrote emoji prose to stdout,
and ignored --download-dir, SOULSEEK_DOWNLOAD_DIR and config.toml.

The commands are now built for scripts and agents:

search download get browse room list|say|listen message send|read

stdout carries records only (tab-separated, or NDJSON under --json), stderr
carries progress, and the exit code carries the verdict: 2 usage, 3 connect,
4 no results, 5 timed out, 6 transfer failed. `get` does search, rank and
fetch in one step, and `search --json | jq ... | download --stdin` composes.
Global flags parse in any position and every one has a SOULSEEK_ variable and
a config.toml key resolved through a single precedence chain.

Defects found and fixed along the way, each covered by a test:

- a download with an unknown size was finalized against zero bytes and saved
as an empty file; the size now comes from the peer's share listing
- transfers are keyed by a hash of the remote path, so the same path from two
peers shadowed itself and two files sharing a basename overwrote each
other; both collisions are now dropped with a warning
- `message send` and `room say` slept 500ms and claimed success; they now
wait for a server reply queued behind the message before reporting
- Client::login waited on an unbounded channel and never returned when the
  server went quiet

Deleted the TUI picker the old `search` drove (download_selector,
MultiDownloadProgress, SearchConfig): 1,573 lines out, 926 in. The
interactive TUI is otherwise untouched.

BREAKING CHANGE: `rooms` and `chat` become `room list|say|listen` and
`message send|read`; `--disable-listener` becomes `--no-listener`; the
unprefixed DISABLE_LISTENER, LISTENER_PORT, LOG_FILE and
MAX_CONCURRENT_DOWNLOADS variables are now SOULSEEK_-prefixed; `search` no
longer opens a picker or downloads anything.

Michel de Graaf 54feb3bc5a fix(peer): log disconnect cause; bind e2e browse listener on all interfaces
The brokered third-party browse e2e failed deterministically on CI. The test
bound its listener to 127.0.0.1 only, but the server brokers back the address
it observed for that client - the host's routable IP (172.17.0.2 under Docker,
10.x on a CI runner). The sharer's dial was refused, it fell back to
re-brokering, and the accept never arrived. The sibling third-party browse
tests already bind 0.0.0.0.

disconnect_with_error logged only "disconnect" and dropped the io::Error on the
floor, which is what made this invisible in the logs; it now logs the cause.

Michel de Graaf be5dc6c064 fix(peer): serve full browse listings + harden the listener; TUI transfer/UX work
Peer layer:
- Stream peer messages with a partial-write queue instead of write_all, so a
large SharedFileListResponse over the non-blocking socket is no longer
truncated (third-party clients like SoulseekQt can now browse our shares).
- Bound the peer-init handshake with a read timeout and handle each accepted
connection on its own thread, so one stalled peer can't wedge the listener.
- e2e: third-party direct/brokered/large-share browse + stalled-peer coverage.

TUI:
- Uploads share the downloads table columns (real Speed) and the info pane now
renders details for a selected upload.
- Download progress bar counts only in-progress transfers and hides when idle.
- Always-visible unread badge (private messages + rooms) in the shortcuts bar,
self-drawn blink so it works under tmux.
- Persist the unread private-message count across restarts.

michel 724796c1eb feat: settings popup and uploads in the transfers pane
Press 'o' for a settings popup: edit the download folder, add/remove
share paths (applied live via a rescan and persisted to config.toml),
and force a re-index with 'r' for files changed on disk. The state
machine is unit-tested; feedback shows the shared file/folder counts.

The downloads pane is now Downloads/Uploads: uploads being served are
listed after downloads with an up-arrow marker, live progress, and
status; 'x' cancels an in-progress upload. Client::shared_counts exposes
the index size for the status line.

michel 6238c44312 feat: track uploads with progress and cancellation
serve_file streams in chunks, updating a shared byte counter and
aborting with Interrupted when a cancel flag is set. Each served upload
is registered (peer, virtual path, size, live progress, status) and
exposed via Client::uploads(); Client::cancel_upload flags a matching
in-progress transfer. e2e: the download test now also asserts the
uploader recorded a completed upload with the right peer and byte
count.

michel be8197fd31 feat: update shared directories at runtime
Client::set_shared_directories rescans the given roots into a fresh
in-memory index, swaps it for peers, and re-announces the folder/file
counts to the server. The current directory list moves into the client
context so the running set is queryable. e2e-verified: a browser sees a
directory that was added after login.

michel a605431a10 feat: multiple shared directories
Shares::scan_many merges several roots into one index, suffixing
duplicate root names so virtual paths cannot collide, and skipping
unreadable roots instead of failing. ClientSettings now takes
shared_directories: Vec<String>; config gains a shared_dirs list
(combined with the single shared_dir and --shared-dir, deduped), with an
explicitly empty value still disabling sharing and the
share-what-you-download default unchanged.

michel 36819d4c42 test: persistence e2e and registration-relogin e2e; lint clean
Adds a lib target (soulseek_rs_tui) exposing cli/models/persist so
integration tests can drive the persistence pipeline: state and config
survive a simulated restart through the real files, with the incomplete
download flagged for auto-resume. The lib e2e suite gains a
register-then-relogin test against soulfind proving the stored-credential
flow's server assumptions. cargo clippy --all-targets and cargo fmt are
clean.

Michel de Graaf 2918b0ce75 refactor: resolve all lint findings
- remove 34 trivial restating comments (auto-fix)
- replace all 20 production .unwrap() calls with graceful handling:
?-propagation via LockPoisoned, unwrap_or_default on infallible
  conversions, let _ = on actor-channel sends, and a downloads_sender()
helper in the TUI that also dedupes three channel-init blocks
- collapse nested if into match guard (clippy::collapsible_match)
- split client.rs (2275 lines) into a client/ module: connection,
  search, downloads, uploads, rooms, operations
- split ui/main_tui.rs (2027 lines) into a main_tui/ module: render,
  input, browse, rooms, downloads, search
- extract oversized functions: peer_actor/server_actor handle_message
into per-message helpers, main() into init_logging/run_default_tui,
  download_selector and main_tui render into per-section helpers

Mechanical only, zero behavior change. Verified: clippy clean
(pedantic+nursery), fmt clean, 143 unit tests + 16 e2e tests against
soulfind pass, lint clean.

michel 6821fd1907 fix: two medium bugs from the final adversarial review
- Retry was broken for the common case: retry_selected_download removed
the failed download only from the UI list, not the client's
DownloadStore. Since Client::download re-derives the same md5 token
from the unchanged filename, retrying a still-Failed download left a
duplicate-token entry; the token-migration path then deleted both,
misrouting completion so the retried file downloaded to disk but the
UI showed 'Queued' forever. Add Client::remove_download /
DownloadStore::remove_by_file (status-agnostic) and clear the stale
  entry before re-issuing. Regression-tested.

- Chat-room member selection could point out of range: RoomEvent::UserLeft
shrank the active room's member list without clamping user_selected, so
the highlight silently shifted to the wrong user (or vanished, making
'b'/'m' no-ops, and blanking the member pane). Clamp user_selected after
  every applied room event. Regression-tested.

michel 9f74300c7a fix(tui): stop raw prints from corrupting the TUI
Log lines were painting over the alternate-screen TUI because some
messages bypassed the buffered logger and wrote straight to the
terminal:

- a live println! in GetPeerAddressHandler fired on every peer-address
lookup (i.e. constantly while browsing/downloading) — routed to the
  buffered debug! logger.
- the TUI's error handlers used eprintln! in the render loop and in
background search/download worker threads — routed to the buffered
warn! logger so failures no longer smear the screen.

The logger already defers to a buffer while the TUI holds the screen; the
fix is simply to go through it instead of print!/eprintln!.

michel 1b62d218dd test(e2e): browse a firewalled peer via the server broker
Add an e2e that forces the server-brokered (firewalled) browse path —
the path that matters on the real network. The sharer does NOT listen,
so the browser's direct dial fails and the server must broker the peer
connecting back to the browser's listener. This exercises
PeerConnectFailed -> ConnectToPeer -> inbound PierceFirewall ->
PeerConnected flush, which the localhost direct-dial test never hits.

Also soften user-facing download failure reasons from protocol jargon
("Peer …") to plain language ("The user went offline", etc.).
