From 9a8f616f9b128b276dc92fb02192daef14e277f1 Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: Michel de Graaf Date: Wed, 9 Sep 2026 19:55:48 +0000 Subject: [PATCH] chore: keep tool attribution out of the history MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit An assistant is tooling, like an editor or a formatter, and tooling does not sign the work — a co-author trailer or a stray commit identity puts one on the repository's GitHub contributor list. Both guards are git's own, so they need no editor-specific directory in the tree. .mailmap folds a tool identity into the author who owns the work, which git honours in log and shortlog and GitHub honours when it builds the contributor list. The commit-msg hook strips the trailers if one is written anyway; CLAUDE.md says so in words and names the one-time config that turns the hook on. --- .githooks/commit-msg | 20 ++++++++++++++++++ .gitignore | 3 +++ .mailmap | 6 ++++++ CLAUDE.md | 49 ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 4 files changed, 78 insertions(+) create mode 100755 .githooks/commit-msg create mode 100644 .mailmap create mode 100644 CLAUDE.md diff --git a/.githooks/commit-msg b/.githooks/commit-msg new file mode 100755 index 0000000..6b47849 --- /dev/null +++ b/.githooks/commit-msg @@ -0,0 +1,20 @@ +#!/bin/sh +# Commits carry the author's attribution and nothing else.
